Music

General music classes are taught to students grades K - 8 by Mrs. Aura Jose. Students are taught to sing and appreciate spiritual, secular, Classical and multicultural music through a variety of sources including the Music Express magazine and Today’s Missal. Students are taught to read and write musical notation and practice playing music on rhythm instruments. Grades K - 2 learn simple melodies and rhythms. Grades 3 - 5 learn more advanced songs and rhythms with a variety of time signatures.

In addition to general music classes, students in grades K - 8 participate in a musical theater program provided by Kidstock, Inc. Students are taught how to act, dance and sing. Kidstock, Inc. prepares the student body for their class performances at the annual Parish Festival and five plays throughout the year.

There are also a variety of performance groups. Students in grades 3 - 8 are invited to join the parish Children’s Choir directed by Mrs. Jose. The choir rehearses every Wednesday and performs at monthly school liturgies, family masses, school concerts, the annual San Bruno Park Christmas Tree lighting ceremony, and the annual Archdiocesan Choral Festival. The choir has also performed at other venues including AT&T Park, Davies Symphony Hall and the White House.

Students in grades 4 - 8 are invited to participate in the school band, directed by Mr. McClanahan. The band rehearses every Monday and performs at school concerts and the annual St. Patrick’s Day parade in San Francisco.

In addition to music class, musical theater, choir, and band, students are prepared for participation in the monthly school and family liturgies. Students in grades 1 - 8 perform a prayerful song at their class school mass. Students in grades 1 - 8 are also invited to perform in the school's annual Talent Show.
